Incumbent Isaac G. Bryan (D)

Democrat Isaac G. Bryan was elected to represent Assembly District 54 in the 2021 Special Election held on May 18, 2021, and assumed office May 28, 2021 (1231 days in office). He supports defunding law enforcement (tweet deleted, see permalink archived screenshot).

Indeed, in a February 2021 interview with CNN, Mr. Bryan strongly suggested that he supports “defunding police in its entirety” [CNN 2021]. That is a direct quote.

Before running for Assembly, Isaac co-chaired Los Angeles County’s Measure J, which passed successfully with 57.12% of the vote on November 3, 2020, but was ruled unconstitutional seven months later, on June 17, 2021, by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mary Strobel, then adopted as de-facto policy by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors on August 10, 2021.
